Current activitiesIn the autumn of 1997 SULA began to formulate ideas for a Gulf of Finland pilot-project to promote Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) for ecologically sustainable development. The project was launched in the spring of this year as the Gulf of Finland Campaign 2000 (GF2000) with the distribution of a 50-page information package, produced in five languages, to about 1000 key addresses. Based on the ring of public libraries around the Gulf, the Campaign is being developed in cooperation with library associations, amateur theatre associations, schools, Local Agenda 21 groups, social and cultural organisations in Finland, Russia and Estonia. The Gulf of Finland Campaign is being funded by public, commercial and private sources in about equal proportions. As a pilot-project to raise public awareness of sustainable development issues the campaign has the support in principle of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM) and Unesco/CSI.
